(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More College baseball team defeated Waynesburg University 4-3 today (Wednesday, April 5, 2017) at Thomas More Field to win the three-game Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) series against the Yellow Jackets.
With the win, the Saints improve to 11-5 overall and 4-2 in the PAC. With the loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 8-13 overall and 3-6 in the PAC.
Thomas More scored one in the second and three in the seventh, while holding Waynesburg to one in the second, one in the eighth and one in the ninth for the 4-3 victory. Senior pitcher Logan Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) earned the win as he pitched seven and two-third innings and gave up two runs (one earned) on four hits, while striking out 11. Senior pitcher Ken Ruberg (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) earned the save as he pitched one and a third innings and gave up one run (earned) on two hits and struck out three.
Thomas More had five hits in the game and were led by junior third baseman Bailey Abbatiello (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle), who was two-for-three with a run scored and two runs batted-in. Sophomore left fielder Joshua Boeckmann (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) was one-for-four with a home run and senior center fielder Casey Metzger (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) was one-for-four with a triple and a RBI.
The Saints will return to action on Friday (April 7) when they will host Geneva College at 4 p.m. in a single nine-inning game at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
