(MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.) - The Thomas More College football was ranked 22nd in the 2014 D3football.com's Preseason Top-25 poll that was released on Wednesday (July 16, 2014) by the internet website.
The Saints received 145 points and was the only Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) ranked in the Top-25. Washington & Jefferson College was listed among "others receiving votes" with 23 points.
The Saints are also ranked in two other national preseason polls as they were ranked No. 14 by the Sporting News and No. 16 by Lindy's. Thomas More, who was ranked 19th in the final regular season AFCA Coaches' Poll and 25th in the D3football.com's Top-25, finished the 2013 season at 9-1 overall and 7-1 in the PAC as it won a share of its fifth PAC title in the last six years. It was the program's 18th winning season in the 24-year history of Thomas More football. The Saints closed out the season with their sixth-straight Bridge Bowl win over across-the-river rival, the College of Mount St. Joseph.
The 2014 season will mark the 25th year of football at Thomas More College. The Saints are second among winningest NCAA Division III football team that have sponsored the sport for 20 years with a .7044 winning percentage (174-73). Thomas More only trails St. John's (Minn.) University, who has a .7049 winning percentage (590-240-24).
The Saints open the 2014 season on September 6 when they travel to Dover, Delaware to play No. 5-ranked Wesley College. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Scott D. Miller Stadium.
The D3football.com To-25 is voted on a by a panel of 25 coaches, sports information directors and media members from across the country and is published weekly during the season.
