(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More College men's basketball team fell to in-state rival Transylvania University, 88-72, tonight (Saturday, November 25, 2017) in a non-conference game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the loss, the Saints fall to 3-2 and with the win, the Pioneers improve to 3-0.
Thomas More raced out to a 6-0 lead when senior forward/center Simon Clifford (Louisville, Ky./DuPont Manual) made a lay-up with 17:44 to play in the opening half. Transylvania got hot from the field then and led by as many as 15 points as it took a 45-32 lead at halftime. The Saints shot 47.8 percent from the field in the first half, but the Pioneers shot 63.3 percent, including 55.6 percent from behind the three-point arc.
Coming out of halftime, Brandon Horne (Louisville, Ky. / Male) connected with Austin from a fast break layup. Ralph Stone (Shelbyville, Ky. / Martha Layne Collins) grabbed an offensive rebound, from a missed Horne jumper, and finished the play with two free throws. Damion King (Winchester, Ky. / George Rogers Clark) finished with two fast break lay-ups in a row. Austin Young (Campbellsburg, Ky. / Henry County) was fouled on a three-point shot and was successful on all three of his foul shots.
Horne, King, and Callahan each ended the game with one steal each. Horne also recorded one assist, four rebounds, and 17 points. King also had three assists, one rebound, and 11 points. Callahan added four rebounds and six points. Young had 13 total points, along with one assist. Stone led the game in rebounds, recording five, along with nine points and going five-for-five from the foul line.
Thomas More will return to action on Wednesday (November 29) when it hosts Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Thiel College at 7:30 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center.
