(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – With the weather unseasonably warm outside, the Thomas More College men's basketball team was hot inside the Connor Convocation Center tonight. The Saints defeated the Thiel Tomcats, 76-53, in their PAC opener.
With the win, the Saints improve to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the PAC. With the loss, the Tomcats fall to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the PAC.
In the first half, the Saints got up to a 4-0 lead within the first two minutes off of Ryne Callahan jumpers. The Tomcats tied it back up, 8-8, for one of the three ties in the first half. The Saints then went on a 4-0 run led by a Brandon Horne layup with an assist from Damion King. The Saints led by as much as 15 going into half-time, 34-19, from jumpers by Ralph Stone, Junior Stockwell, Callahan, and King.
Coming out of half-time, the Saints jumped the gate with a 11-1 run, sparked by a Callahan three-pointer and a Stockwell layup. Thomas More led by 30 with 12 minutes left to go in the game. Michael Griffin knocked down a three-pointer from a King assist to start the 7-0 run with six minutes left in the game. Antonio McKinney hit a three-pointer for the final points in the game for the Saints, putting Thomas More up 30 and giving the Saints the win, 76-53.
Callahan had the team high 16 points, along with six rebounds, two assists, and went seven-for-ten from the field. Horne was a perfect five-for-five from the field, recording 11 points, three rebounds, and two assists. King went four-for-four from the foul line, putting up 13 points, six assists, two steals, and four rebounds.
The Saints travel to take on Bethany on December 2, which will tip-off at 3:00 PM.
