Garrison and Kayed Lead Saints to 6-1 Win vs. Wittenberg

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More College men's soccer added another win to their record defeating Wittenberg University 6-1 tonight, Tuesday Sept. 12, making them 3-2 now on the season. This match played tonight was the make-up match from the previously postponed match on Sept. 1. With the loss, Wittenberg drops to 0-4-1.

Thomas More went up 2-0 within the first 10 minutes of the first half by goals from Griffin Garrison and Ethan Smith. Towards the end of the half, Thomas More committed a penalty in the box, giving Wittenberg a penalty shot and their only goal of the match.

Coming out of half-time, the Saints kept the momentum going and scored within the first minute, by Suli Kayed. Soon after, Ethan Smith had a shot on goal blocked that was picked up by Garrison for his second goal of the match. In the 73rd minute, Jake Overbee put one in the back of the net for the Saints. Kayed put the nail in the coffin in the 76th minute scoring the sixth, and final, goal for the Saints.

Garrison and Kayed were the key players tonight for the Saints. Both recorded two goals, and a combined total of 11 shots. The bench players made a big difference in the match as well. Overbee and Smith coming off the bench, each having an assist, and each scoring a goal having three shots total between them.

Goal keeper Andrew Mathews played all 90 minutes, only having one goal allows and recording two saves. The Saints had 28 shots to Wittenberg's seven, 12 in the first half and 16 in the second half.

Thomas More is back in action Saturday Sept. 16 at Kenyon. Match is set to start at 3:30 p.m.
