
(GREENVILLE, Pa.) – The Thomas More College men's soccer team closed out the regular season today (Saturday, October 28, 2017) with a 2-0 shutout win over Thiel College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match at Alumni Stadium in Greenville, Pennsylvania.
With the win the Saints improve to 12-4-2 overall and 7-0-1 in the PAC. With the loss, the Tomcats end the season at 4-11-1 overall and 1-6-1 in the PAC.
The Saints took an early 1-0 lead in the seventh minute when sophomore midfielder Griffin Garrison (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) scored off an assist by sophomore forward Jake Overbee (Nicholasville, Ky./West Jessamine).
Thomas More added an insurance goal when Garrison crossed a pass to junior forward Zane Ross (Burlington, Ky./Cooper), who found the back of the net in the 65th minute for the final score of 2-0.
Junior goalkeeper Jeff Paulin (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart) earned the shutout in goal as he played all 90 minute and had one save.
Thomas More out-shot Thiel 20-2, including 6-1 on-goal and had a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Saints are the No. 1 seed in next week's PAC Championship Tournament and will host the No. 4 seed on Wednesday (November 1) in a semifinal match at 2 p.m. at BB&T Field. The PAC office will announce the tournament field later today or tomorrow.
