(WAYNESURG, Pa.) - The Thomas More College men's tennis team won its first match of the season today (Thursday, April 10, 2014) as it defeated Waynesburg University, 5-4, in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match at the WU Tennis Courts in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania.
With the win, the Saints improve to 1-5 overall and 1-2 in the PAC and with the loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 1-9 overall and 0-6 in the PAC.
Thomas More trailed 2-1 after doubles play as the No. 3 tandem of senior Ben Millman (Paducah,Ky./Community Christian) and freshman Joseph Gil (Morton, Ill./Morton) won 8-5.
In singles play, the Saints won four of the six matches as sophomore Sergio Pascual (Carrollton, Ky./Carroll County) won 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 at No. 1, freshman Jared Justice (Mason, Ohio/Mason) won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2, senior Tim Rice (Fort Mitchell, Ky./Covington Catholic) won at No. 3 by he scores of 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 and freshman Joseph Gil (Morton, Ill./Morton) won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 6.
Thomas More returns to action tomorrow as it plays Bethany College at 3:30 p.m. at the Ewing Tennis Courts in Bethany, West Virginia.
