(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More College men's tennis team defeated Grove City College for the first-time in a regular season match in school history today (Saturday, April 14, 2018) as it defeated the Wolverines, 5-4, in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match played indoors at the Five Seasons Sports Club in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints improve to 10-3 overall and 5-1 in the PAC. The win was first for either Thomas More tennis program (men's or women's) over Grove City. With the loss, the Wolverines fall to 4-6 overall and 3-2 in the PAC.
Thomas More trailed 2-1 after doubles play as the Saints' lone win as an 8-5 victory at No. 2 by the tandem of first-year Jefferey Schenk (For Thomas, Ky./Highlands) and sophomore Sheldon Preisler (San Diego, Calif./Boone County (Ky.)).
The Saints rallied in singles play and won four of the six matches to post the 5-4 victory. Schenk was a 6-4, 6-4 winner at No. 2, Preisler won at No. 3 by the score of 6-2, 6-4, junior Michael Schwarz (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 and first-year Jared Haught (Edgewood, Ky./Covington Catholic) was a 6-2, 6-3 winner at No. 5.
Thomas More returns to the indoor courts at Five Seasons tomorrow (Sunday, April 15) when it hosts Thiel College at 12 p.m.
