(ANDERSON, Ind.) – The Thomas More College softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Anderson University today (Monday, April 17, 2017) at Raven Field in Anderson, Indiana. Thomas won game one, 6-3, and Anderson won the nightcap, 10-8.
With the split, the Saints are 22-8 overall and the Ravens are 12-16 overall.
In the first game of the day, Thomas More scored two runs in the first and four in the five and held Anderson to two runs in the first and one in the sixth for the 6-3 victory. Sophomore pitcher Alix DeDreu (Rising Sun, Ind./Rising Sun) earned the win in the circle as she pitched seven inning and gave up three runs (all earned) on seven hits and struck out two.
The Saints had seven hits in the game and had two players with multiple hits. Junior center fielder Laura Finke (Fort Wright, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) was two-for-four with two runs scored junior second baseman Sammy Sagers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) was two-for-four with a run scored and a run batted-in. DeDreu was one-for-four with a run scored and two RBI.
In the nightcap, Anderson plated two runs in the first, two in the third and six in the fifth and held the Saints to four runs in the first, one in the second, one in the third and two in the fifth for the 10-8 win.
Thomas More belted out 15 hits in the game and had four Saints with multiple hits. First-year catcher Kenzie Dickerson (Union, Ky./Ryle) led the team at the plate as she was four-for-four with a run scored and RBI. DeDreu was three-for-four with a run scored and two RBI, sophomore leftfielder Mary Beth Odom (Taylor Mill, Ky./Dixie Heights) was two-for-four with a run scored and a RBI and junior pitcher Dallis Knotts (Florence, Ky./Boone County) was two-for-four with a double and RBI.
Knotts suffered the loss in the circle as she started and pitched four and a third innings and gave up nine runs (seven earned) on 11 hits and struck out one. Sophomore pitcher Hannah Sprague (Bright, Ind./East Central) pitched one and two-third innings of relief and gave up one run (unearned) on two hits.
The Saints return to action tomorrow when they host Chatham University in a PAC doubleheader starting at 3:30 p.m. at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
