(TUCSON, Ariz.) – The Thomas More College softball team went into day three of the Lead-off Classic 1-3 over the first two days. The Saints were looking to keep their momentum from the win yesterday when taking on St. John Fisher and Illinois Wesleyan on day three. Thomas More came out strong in the first game against St. John Fisher, winning 16-8 in only five innings. However, in the second game, the Saints fell 12-3 to Illinois Wesleyan in five innings. With the split, the Saints are now 2-4 overall.
In the first game, Alix DeDreu went 2-3 in batting, recording two RBI's and two doubles. Sammy Sagers went 3-4, recording five RBI's and a double. Mary Beth Odom went 1-3 hitting a home run, resulting in four RBI's, a stolen base. Bree Appel went 1-2 on the day with two RBI's. Kenzi Dickerson went 1-1 with a double. Alix DeDreu is now 2-0 from the mound, allowing only 11 hits and eight runs. DeDreu walked only two batters and had three strikeouts.
In the second game, Dallis Knotts was on the mound giving up seven runs and seven hits. Hannah Sprague came in and gave up seven hits and five runs, facing 20 batters. Laura Finke recorded one RBI. Odom went 2-2 with a double and an RBI. Whitney Quillen also recorded an RBI in her at-bat.
The Saints have a day off and are back on the field Tuesday, March 6, facing Linfield and Otterbein for the final day of the Leadoff Classic. The first game will start at 11:00 AM and the second game will start at 1:00 PM.
