Softball Falls in Game 1 of NCAA Tournament to IWU

(BLOOMINGTON, Ill.) – The first round of the NCAA Championship Tournament began today in Bloomington, Illinois. The Thomas More College Saints played the second game of the day against the host team Illinois Wesleyan University Titans. Thomas More fell to IWU 4-0, sending the Titans to the winner's bracket and the Saints to the losers bracket with a chance to move back into the winner's bracket. With the loss, Thomas More fell to 31-15 on the season. 

The first inning was scoreless for both teams. The Titans got on the board in the second inning, scoring one to give them the 1-0 lead. Thomas More went three up-three down in the third inning. IWU put two more on the board to give them a 3-0 lead. Thomas More loaded the bases in the fourth inning. Laura Finke got on base by a walk. Finke advanced to second on a single to center field from Dallis Knotts. Alix DeDreu singled down the right field line advancing Knotts to second and Finke to third. The Titans would retire the next three batters, leaving Thomas More stranded with three on base. IWU would score one more run before the game ended, leaving with a 4-0 victory over the Saints. 

Thomas More recorded two hits, one walk, and three left on base on the offensive side. Knotts went 1-3 hitting the single to center field. DeDreu went 1-3 hitting the single up the right field line. Finke went 0-2 getting on base with the walk. 

DeDreu was on the mound for the Saints, facing 27 batters allowing four runs off seven hits. She struck out four batters and walked only one. 

The Saints will face the loser of game one today, DePauw, at a 1:30 CST.
