(BEAVER FALLS, Pa.) – 13 Saints reached the scoring column today (Saturday, February 4, 2017) as the No. 3/4 Thomas More College women's basketball team defeated Geneva College, 106-50, in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at Metheny Fieldhouse in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania.
With the win, the Saints improved to 21-0 overall and 14-0 in the PAC. With the loss, the Golden Tornadoes fall to 4-17 overall and 1-13 in the PAC.
For the game the Saints shot 58.7 percent from the field as they connected on 44-of-75 shots, including 48.4 percent (15-of-31) from behind the three-point arc. Thomas More's defense recorded 16 steals on 22 Geneva turnovers and blocked seven Golden Tornado shots.
Thomas More out-scored Geneva 44-8 in the paint, 32-1 off turnovers and 23-4 on second chance points.
Sophomore guard Madison Temple (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) led all scorers with 19 points, while she was joined in double-figures by junior forward Nikki Kiernan (Cold Springs, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) with 18 points and junior guard Abby Owings (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) with 16 points. First-year forward Emily Schultz (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart) just missed double-figures with nine points. Temple just missed a double-double as she dished out a game-high nine assists and led the team in steals with four. Kiernan led the team in blocked shots with five, while she and Temple led the team on the boards with six rebounds.
Thomas More returns to action on Wednesday (February 8) when it hosts Westminster College at 5:30 p.m. inside the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
