Madison Temple Earns 1,000th Career Point vs. Willamette in Hawaii

(HONOLULU, HI)Madison Temple started off the Hoop N' Surf Classic in Honolulu, HI tonight in style, scoring her 1,000th career point. The Saints defeated the Willamette Bearcats, 76-56. With the win, the Saints improve to 9-1 overall and the Bearcats fall to 4-5 overall.

Thomas More got out to a 9-0 lead against the Bearcats. The 9-0 run was fueled by a lay-up and a jumper from Nikki Kiernan, a lay-up from Temple. Thomas More went into the second quarter leading 16-12. The Saints extended their lead to eight, with a steal and fast break lay-up from Abby Owings. Temple completed a three-point play with a lay-up and the foul shot. Thomas More went into half-time with a 42-30 lead.

Coming out of the half, Temple connected for a lay-up to start a five-point run. Owings hit a three-pointer from a Kiernan assist and offensive rebound. The Saints went into the final quarter leading 59-40. With 7:46 left in the game, Temple connects on a jumper, giving her, her 1,000th career point. Lauren Gerber stole the ball and completed the fast break play, putting the Saints up by 19. Kaela Saner grabbed an offensive rebound and hit a three-pointer with three minutes to go in the game. Hayden White closed the game out, grabbing a defensive rebound and sending the Saints to a 76-56 victory.

Owings recorded three rebounds, three assists, and two steals to go with her 10 points. Kiernan put up 14 points, along with five rebounds, one assist, and one block. Temple put up 27 total points for the game high, along with seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

Temple joins the 1,000-point club with teammates Owings and Kiernan who accomplished this last season. This also makes the team have three players on the team with over 1,000 points. Temple is the 19th person in program history to accomplish this.

The Saints will take on second ranked Christopher Newport tomorrow, Wednesday December 20, in Honolulu, HI. Tip-off will be at 6:00 PM.
