Saints Post 2-1 Mark at W&J Quad, Including a PAC Win Over W&J

(WASHINGTON, Pa.) – The Thomas More College wrestling team went 2-1, including a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) win over Washington & Jefferson College today (Saturday, December 2, 2017) at the Washington & Jefferson Quad Match at the Henry Memorial Gymnasium in Washington, Pennsylvania.

The Saints improve to 5-1 in dual matches and 1-0 in the PAC regular season.

In the first match of the day, the Saints defeated Washington & Jefferson 28-19 and won six of the weight classes.  First-year Brady Wells (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) won by forfeit at 125 and at 133 first-year Tanner Yenter (California, Ky./Campbell County) had a 10-5 decision.  First-year Jimmy Traub (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) won by disqualification at 157 and sophomore Andrew Taylor (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) had a 7-3 decision at 174.  Thomas More won the final weight classes as sophomore James Caniglia (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland) had a 14-2 major decision at 197 and sophomore Ahmad Hammeidan (Florence, Ky./Boone) had a pin in 4:40 at 285.

Thomas More fell to NCAA Division II – member West Liberty University 41-4.  First-year Gunnar Dawson (Madison, Ohio/Madison) earned the Saints' lone win in the match as he had a 17-6 major decision at 165.

The Saints closed out the quad match with a 34-12 win over Penn State University – The Behrend College.  Thomas More registered seven victories against the Lions.  Wells was had a 3-0 decision at 125, Yenter won by forfeit at 133 and sophomore Parker Buschelman (Harrison, Ohio/Harrison) won by forfeit at 141.  At 157 Traub had a 10-2 major decision, Dawson had a 9-7 decision as 165, Taylor had a pin in 1:05 at 174 and Caniglia had a pin in 2:00 at 197.

The Saints return to the mat on December 9 when they compete at the North Central College Invitational in Naperville, Illinois.
