(FRANKLIN, Ind.) – The No. 9-ranked Thomas More College women's soccer team opened the McGowan era tonight (Friday, September 1, 2017) with a 1-0 shutout win over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology at Faught Stadium in Franklin, Indiana.
Head Coach Kim McGowan is in her first year leading the Saints (1-0) after serving as the head coach at Olivet College the previous two seasons.
Thomas More and the Fightin' Engineers (0-1) played to a scoreless tie at halftime. Sophomore midfielder Megan Sheridan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) scored the lone goal of the match at the 49:38 mark of the contest.
Sophomore goalkeeper Aleyna Heyman (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek) earned the shutout win between the pipes as she played all 90 minutes and recorded four saves.
Thomas More out-shot Rose-Hulman, 13-7, including 10-4 on-goal. Sheridan led the team in shots with three goals with all three on-goal. The Saints also won the battle of corner kicks, 4-3.
The Saints return to action on Sunday (September 3) when they return to Faught Stadium in Franklin, Indiana to play Franklin College at 5 p.m.
