(HANOVER, Ind.) – The Thomas More College women's soccer team defeated traditional rival Hanover College, 3-1, tonight (Wednesday, September 13, 2017) in a non-conference match at the Hanover College Athletic Complex in Hanover, Indiana.
With the win, the Saints improve to 4-1 and with the loss, the Panthers fall to 4-2.
Thomas More took an early 1-0 lead when sophomore forward Olivia Nienaber (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart) scored unassisted at the 7:43 mark.
The Saints increased the lead to 2-0 in the 58th minute when senior defender Samantha Goodwin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) scored off a cross from first-year forward Ashley Maples (Springboro, Ohio/Archbishop Alter). First-year midfielder Morgan Beare (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) extended the lead to 3-0 at the 60:17 mark off a deflection. Hanover tallied a goal in the 84th minute for the final score of 3-1.
Sophomore goalkeeper Aleyna Heyman (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek) earned the win as she played all 90 minutes and recorded two saves, while giving up the one goal.
The Saints out-shot Hanover 13-7, including 9-3 on-goal and had a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Thomas More returns to action on Saturday (September 16) when it hosts Kenyon College at 1 p.m. at BB&T Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
