(TERRE HAUTE, Ind.) – The Thomas More College women's track & field team opened the outdoor season with a sixth place finish today (Saturday, March 18, 2017) at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Early Bird Invitational at the William R. Welch Track Complex in Terre Haute, Indiana.
The Saints had nine Top-8 finishes and had 38 points to place them sixth.
Senior Megan Barton (Florence, Ky./Villa Madonna) had two Top-6 finishes as she was fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 32-03.75 and sixth in the long jump with a jump of 14-07.00. Sophomore Rachel Whitehill (Crestwood, Ky./Oldham County) also scored twice as she was fourth in the high jump with a jump of 4-07.00 and was seventh in the long jump with a mark of 14-01.00.
Junior Christina Cook (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) was second in the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:26.84 and senior Allyson Clements (Cincinnati, Ohio/Reading) was fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.58 second, while junior Mackenzie Hester (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) was sixth in the 400-mtere dahs with a time of 1:08.52. The Saints had two Top-8 finishes in the 1,500-meter run as junior Kelsey Etherton (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) was third with a time of 5:12.67 and first-year Natalie Kleier (Covington, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) was eighth with a time of 5:34.17.
The Saints return to action on March 25 when they travel to Lexington, Kentucky to compete at the Pioneer Invitational hosted by Transylvania University.
